Hi, it’s me, Tameka.  This is my favorite time of the year to attend The Arc. I love all of the Classroom holiday activities and celebrations. I love making all of the certificates that will be awarded to The Arc’s classrooms during the holiday decoration contests. I read my favorite holiday books to my fellow Arc Participants, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss and “How to Catch Santa” by Jean Reagan and Lee Wildish. Also, “When Santa lost his Ho Ho Ho,” “Santa’s New Suit,” and “Who’ll Pull Santa’s Sleigh Tonight?” by Laura Rader.

On Friday, December 9th, The Arc of San Antonio and the USAA Insurance Company had a holiday pizza party where each Participant received their gift from an USAA employee. This year, I ask for Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War.” DVD. I wore my favorite holiday candy cane attenas, my mom painted my nails green with multi-colored glitter so that they would look like Christmas trees, and I wore my brand new red Santa Claus suit sweater that my mother bought as one of my Christmas gifts. Even Santa Claus took time away from getting ready at the North Pole to attend the party. Santa had a slice of his favorite kind of pizza: candy cane and pepperoni.

Every year, an USAA employee will buy a Participant a holiday gift that he or she has wished for. The Arc of San Antonio is so thankful to the company of USAA, its employees and  Santa Claus for making the holiday season, very jolly.

On the way home, I got a chance to take a picture with a Blue Santa of San Antonio.

In 1976, the Blue Santa Program was created to help bring holiday happiness to families and children throughout San Antonio. Blue Santa is all about bringing hope and joy to families that struggle to make ends meet during the toughest times of the year, the holidays.

On Tuesday, December 13th, my classroom went on an outing to The Magik

Theater (in downtown San Antonio) to go to see the stage play, “Twas the night before Christmas” by Ken Ludwig. I really liked this play!  I thought it was really funny and a creative story about a girl and her best friend who is a mouse and their adventure to the North Pole.

The other Arc Participants and I and Staff Members were treated with a holiday visit on Thursday, December 15th from Mr. Doug W. and his band named, “The Winning Hand.” Mr. W. and his band visited The Arc to sing holiday songs for everyone. The Arc would like thank Mr. W. and his band for so generously giving their time to make our day filled with holiday joy.

On Friday, December 16th, we had a Holiday Classroom Door Decorating Contest.

My classroom is named The Arc’s Arc Press Club. We decorated our classroom door in red, green, and white wrapping paper and we named our holiday door decoration theme was “All Wrapped up in Christmas.”

All of The Arc Participants and Staff Members worked really hard and were very proud of our Holiday Door Decorations.

Also, on Friday, December 16th, The Arc Classrooms had a Holiday Classroom Gingerbread Creations Contest. The goal was to make the most interesting and creative buildings out of gingerbread. Thanks to a very generous donation from a H-E-B employee, each classroom received a gingerbread house building kit. My classroom’s gingerbread creation was named, “Snowy Home on the Range.”

Special thanks goes to the Upstairs Arc Staff Members, Ms. Susan M., (The Arc’s Vice President and C.F.O.) Ms. Brooke K., (Director of CSCM and Community Education) and Ms. Heather L. (Director of Family Support Services) for being such sensational Holiday Classroom Door and Gingerbread Creations Judges for 2016.

All of The Arc Participants and Staff Members worked really hard and were very proud of our Holiday Gingerbread Creations.

To finish out the month, on Monday, December 19th, we wore our favorite seasonal sweaters and shirts to celebrate the holiday season. I wore my new green Snoopy shirt (Snoopy is tangled up in Christmas lights) that I got as an early Christmas gift. Everyone had a gleeful day wearing their holiday apparel.

So, that was the delightful month of December for The Arc Participants.

I’ll be back next time with the highlights of the joyful month of January and the start of the year of 2017.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.

I hope you and your family have a great and safe holiday and a nifty New Year celebration.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone and I’ll see you in 2017!
