Hi, everybody! I wanted to tell everyone about the great thing that happened at The Arc this month. On Tuesday, June 4th, one-hundred and seventy-nine volunteers from H-E-B’s Tournament of Champions came to The Arc of San Antonio (on West Avenue) to help build a brand new playground, including accessible garden beds, a newly repaired wheelchair swing, (which I think is really cool) and many beautiful trees and plants for the Participants to enjoy.
Arc Staff Member, Ms. Beth Green, (The Arc’s Director of Development) designed and coordinated the project.
H-E-B raised over $6.8 million dollars to help youth-focused non-profits during its annual Tournament of Champions. The tournament, which includes tennis and golf events, features a volunteer component.
These volunteers came from large corporations such as Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Dannon, Dr. Pepper/Snapple, Mars/Wrigley/Advantage, Mondelez International, Reckitt Benckiser and Dole Foods.
H-E-B donated $75,000 to purchase modified playground equipment for The Arc of San Antonio’s Participants. In addition to building the playground, the volunteers added mulched, landscaped and painting the parking lot. Through a charitable donation from the U.S.A.A. Foundation, The Arc was able to build a safety walkway from the building to the playground.
The other Arc Participants and I and Staff Members are truly appreciative of H-E-B’s generosity.
