Helping Others in Need

TamekaMy fellow Participants in the V.I.P. (Volunteer Involvement Program) at the Arc of San Antonio on West Avenue decided that we wanted to give back to our community. We decided to donate to the SAMMinisries. SAMMinistries is an interfaith ministry whose mission is to help the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless attain self-sufficiency by offering, with dignity and compassion, shelter, housing, and services. SAMMinistries also provides volunteers opportunities to be renewed and fulfilled as they serve.

We chose to take the money from our healthy food snack bar sales that we host every Friday. The SAMMinisries told us that they were in need of bathing suits for young girls. Our staff members took us to a Wal-Mart store where we picked out bathing suits to donate to the SAMMinisries. With the help of my classmate and an Arc Staff Member, I took pictures for my monthly newsletter. It gave me and the other V.I.P’s a good feeling to help people in need. If you would like to donate to the SAMMinisries, this is what they need and their website: http://www.samm.org/

Pillows, blankets, twin sheet sets, full sheet sets, baby diapers (especially sizes 4, 5, and 6), adult diapers, feminine hygiene products, toiletry products (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, etc.)

If you have NEW items to donate or are interested in holding a Collection Drive for SAMMinistries, please contact the Development Manager, Elizabeth de los Santos, at edelossantos@samm.org or (210) 321-5641.

For all other donation of used items, please call the SAMMinistries Donation Station located at 1 Haven for Hope Way: 210-220-2412. If no one is able to answer the phone, please leave a message and your call will be returned.
