“A Fantastically Festive Frozen Halloween”

Hi, everyone! I’m so excited that it was my second favorite time of the year to be at The Arc (next to the month of December.) I love all of the Halloween themed activities and arts and crafts that we do at The Arc during October. We do so many cool Halloween activities that I have to wait until November 1st to send out the October Newsletter so I can include everything.Tameka as Queen Elsa Blog 10-25-2015 Sunday11

This year, I chose to be Queen Elsa from Walt Disney’s 2013 animated movie, “Frozen.” That movie gave me such a comfort to me when I was in the hospital during my gallbladder surgeries from February to May 2015 that is why I chose to be Queen Elsa. I won a trophy for “The Prettiest Princess / Queen’s Smile” at this year’s “Dreams Come True” Halloween Party (for people with disabilities) and Costume Contest at the Midnight Rodeo Dance Club. My mom and I went to the movies to go see “Hotel Transylvania 2.”

On Friday, October 9th, The Arc Participants had a Halloween Classroom Door Decorating Contest. My new classroom named “The Press Club” (we’re responsible for making the informational flyers that are passed out and sent home with the Participants. Updating the bulletin boards around The Arc. Also, keeping the other classrooms informed about the activities that go on during the week) decorated our classroom door with the theme from “The Book of Life” animated movie. We named our door decoration, “Write your own Story in The Book of Life’s Haunted Library.”

The First Place Certificate winners were Classroom # 5. Their decoration theme was, “Classroom 5 is Waiting for The Great Pumpkin!”
The Second Place Certificate was awarded to the LEAP Classroom. Their decoration theme was, “We’re going Batty over Fall and Halloween!”
The Third Place Certificate awarded to Classroom # 10. Their decoration theme was, “Halloween Town.”
The Honorable Mention Certificate was awarded to Classroom # 9. Their decoration theme was, “Monster’s Inc.’s Nightmare Before Halloween.”

All of the other Arc Participants and I and Staff Members worked        really hard and were very proud of our Halloween Door Creations.

On Wednesday, October 21st, The Arc had a Pumpkin Decorating Contest with pumpkins donated by the Alliance Bernstein Non-profit Organization. My classroom’s pumpkin decoration theme was, “Cookie Monster’s Trick or Treat on Sesame Street.” The First Place Certificate winners were Classroom # 8. Their decoration theme was “The Pumpkin Brothers: Billy, Jim Bob, and Joe.” The Second Place Certificate winners were Classroom # 10. Their decoration theme was “The Pumpkin Squad.” The Third Place Certificate winners were Classroom # 1. Their decoration theme was “Mr. T.’s Award Winning Pumpkin.” The Honorable Mention Certificate winners were Classroom # 3. Their decoration theme was “The Great Pumpkins.”
Even, The Arc’s C.E.O. and President, Mr. Steve E. took part in the Classroom Pumpkin Decorating Contest. He’s decoration theme was ““Bozo’s Halloween Treats.”

All of the other Arc Participants and I and Staff Members were very proud our pumpkin decoration creations.

On Thursday, October 22nd, the Upstairs Arc Staff Members

We are very happy to announce that the First Place Certificate winners for the most Splendid and Overwhelmingly Original Halloween Office Decorations named “Chateau of Horrors” are Case Managers, Ms. Vicky V., Ms. Sheila B., Ms. Keri O., Ms. Jane S. and Ms. Kim F. All of the Upstairs Arc Staff Members were extremely proud of their Halloween Office Decorations.

To finish up the month of October festivities, The other Arc Participants and I and Staff Members had a delightfully dreadful time at our annual Halloween Dance and Costume Contest on Friday, October 30th. Not even the rain could stop us from ending October on a sweet note. Even, Ephraim, The Arc’s resident slightly spooky ghost had a ghoulishly good time.

So, that was extremely fun and busy with month of October at The Arc of San Antonio on West Avenue. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and I hope that you and your family had a great and safe Halloween!
