A New Way to Work
In 2006, The Arc of San Antonio launched the Green Clean Team to give people with developmental disabilities an alternative to traditional job programs. The Green Clean Team provides specialized training, a paid internship, and job placement within a janitorial company operated by The Arc.

Transition to a regular job
Angelina, Justin and Amy were the first Green Clean Team trainees to move from the paid internship to employment in the community.

While the members of the Green Clean Team are trained on every cleaning technique, they specialize in just one area when they go out in the field. Justin is an expert at mopping and vacuuming. Amy specializes in cleaning restrooms.

Angelina focuses on emptying the trash, dusting furniture, and disinfecting the phones, door knobs and light switches.

Purpose and Enjoyment
How do the members of the Green Clean Team feel about their jobs? Justin really likes mopping and says that working makes him feel calm and relaxed.

Amy, who has worked at fast food restaurants before, thinks the training she received for the Green Clean Team was much better than what she received in the past. She also likes being part of a team.

Angelina is enthusiastic when talking about the quality of their work. "It's the best clean you will find anywhere!" she says.
